Inuyama’s Rich and Distinctive Cultural Tapestry

Carved by the currents of the Kiso River, Inuyama Castle and its surrounding town flourished. Esteemed even by the feudal rulers of Japan, this land cultivated unique traditions such as tea culture and “Nindo-shu” liqueur, which have been deeply cherished to this day.

Tea Ceremony

Inuyama is one of the first towns in the Nobi region where the refined culture of “chanoyu” (tea ceremony) flourished among the people. Since then, this tradition has been passed down through generations, so much so that by the end of the Meiji era, it was said that "rare was the person in Inuyama who was unfamiliar with ikebana flower arranging and chanoyu."

Nindo-shu liqueur

Crafted using techniques introduced from the continent during Hideyoshi's Korean campaigns, this distinctive liqueur was also favored by Tokugawa Ieyasu, renowned for his dedication to health. At SHUKU and KOKON, we offer a contemporary interpretation of this heritage spirit, from soothing honeysuckle baths to exquisite cocktails.
